Introduction
This elegant red wine originates from the United States, specifically from the Carneros region in southern Napa Valley. Truchard Vineyards is a family-owned estate founded in 1974 by Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, who were pioneers in developing the Carneros AVA for grape growing. The winery's philosophy emphasizes small-production lots crafted exclusively from its 400-acre estate, which features a diverse topography of rolling hills and unique soils ranging from volcanic ash to sandstone. The family considers themselves 'a big vineyard with a small winery,' hand-selecting only the best fruit for their own labels while selling the majority of their grapes to other premier Napa producers.
Wine Description
The 2023 Truchard Cabernet Sauvignon displays a deep colour and a layered sensory profile typical of the estate's hillside parcels. The nose offers elegant aromas of raspberry, plum, and cassis, complemented by subtle touches of cedar and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is rich and complex, featuring intense flavours of ripe cherries, red currants, and berry jam.
This wine is typically a blend, with the estate often incorporating small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec to provide additional softness and structural complexity. Stylistically, it is noted for its balance and refinement, where ripe tannins focus the palate and lead to a lengthy finish of spice and red fruit.
