Thirteen Iowa winters and summers left a serious mark on this Hidden Stash 13-year straight rye. Distilled from a 95% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill and bottled non-chill filtered at 108 proof, it shows Templeton in full, unfiltered voice.
The aroma leans into dark chocolate, molasses, toasted oak, and black pepper over dried fruit and well-worn leather.
On the palate, velvety caramel and vanilla thread through layers of sweet tobacco, clove, candied orange peel, and a chipotle-like warmth that slowly unfolds. It tastes unapologetically mature and rye-forward.
The finish lingers with honeyed oak, dark cocoa, cracked pepper, and a dry rye snap that never turns harsh.
Sip it neat on a slow evening, share a celebratory pour with fellow rye obsessives, or anchor a minimalist Old Fashioned around its spice. Either way, it commands attention.
