Spring Mountain began as the original Estate property, acquired in 1977, and today its vines are given over entirely to red Bordeaux varieties. Only 75 of the site's 489 acres are planted, spread across elevations from 500 to 1,600 feet. The ground here mixes sedimentary and volcanic soils, moderately fertile and well drained, with conditions that shift from block to block.
That mountain setting shows up in the glass as refined red fruit, with pomegranate as the signature note. Aromatics lean savory and spiced, with sage, thyme and rosemary carried by violet perfume and red floral tones. The 2016 is concentrated, yet the structure stays understated, supporting those high aromatic notes with layered texture. Bottled at 14.5% ABV in 750 ml.
