Meinklang Weisser Mulatschak is a natural, skin-contact white wine (often referred to as an orange wine) from Austria, made by the Meinklang estate in the Burgenland region.
Key Characteristics:
- Style: Orange wine / skin-contact white
- Grapes: Typically a blend of Welschriesling, Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder), and Traminer
-
Winemaking:
- Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts
- Extended skin contact (hence the orange hue)
- Unfiltered and unfined
- Minimal or no added sulphur
Tasting Notes:
- Colour: Cloudy amber or deep orange, due to skin maceration
- Aromas: Floral, spicy, with hints of stone fruit, herbs, and citrus peel
- Palate: Dry, textural, slightly tannic with refreshing acidity and funky, savoury notes
- Finish: Zesty, with lingering spice and phenolic grip
Serving Tips:
- Slight chill (around 12–14°C)
- Best served in a white wine or universal glass
- Great with fermented foods, spicy dishes, charcuterie, or vegetarian meals
