This three-bottle set takes you on a tour of Justin Vineyards & Winery in Paso Robles, on California's Central Coast. Inside you get the winery's Cabernet Sauvignon, its Justification blend and its flagship, Isosceles. Together they show how Justin works with Bordeaux grapes in warm, sunny vineyards.
Justin Cabernet Sauvignon is the easygoing member of the group. It is a full, generous red that suits a weeknight steak or a quiet evening at home. It is a good place to start before you open the other two.
Justification is built on Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The winery describes aromas of black cherry, red plum and pomegranate, touched with vanilla and leather. On the palate, ripe blackberry and plum lead into savory herbs. The 2020 vintage spent 18 months in French oak.
Isosceles is the wine Justin is best known for. It was first released in 1987. Cabernet Sauvignon leads, with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in support. The 2021 vintage aged 21 months in new French oak. Expect black cherry and black currant, then cedar, tobacco, vanilla and baking spice. That 2021 earned 93 points from James Suckling.
Decant these reds for 30 to 45 minutes before you pour. Serve them with grilled steak, lamb chops, beef short ribs or aged cheddar. The set makes a generous gift for anyone who loves bold California reds. It can also carry a whole dinner party, from the first glass to the last.
