🌿 Origin & Philosophy
Freeland Spirits is a proudly woman-owned and operated distillery known for blending Pacific Northwest freshness with modern craft techniques. Their flagship Dry Gin (45% ABV) uses both copper pot still and gentle vacuum distillation to preserve delicate botanicals like cucumber, mint, rosemary, and thyme alongside classic dried spices.
👃 Aroma (Nose)
Expect a lively, herbaceous bouquet: fresh cucumber and garden herbs like mint and rosemary lead, with hints of grapefruit, lemon peel, spruce, and spiced juniper. Floral and green notes round out the upfront intensity.
👅 Flavor & Body
-
Flavor: Piney juniper anchors layers of mulled spices, pink peppercorn, star anise, coriander, and salal berry. Citrus zest provides brightness alongside mint, thyme, and herbal freshness.
-
Texture: Smooth and layered, with a balanced body that’s slightly vegetal and minty but avoids heaviness. Offers both structure and lift.
🔁 Finish
Lingering and herbal, the finish echoes citrus peel, green spice, and forest-like juniper. It’s softly warming without harsh bite, leaving a clean herbal impression.
🌟 Identity & Reception
-
A Mediterranean-style gin made from 14 botanicals, combining fresh Pacific Northwest herbs with classic gin spices for vibrancy and nuance.
-
Reviews praise its bold botanical presence, ideal in stirred classics like negronis and Gibsons. It’s crisp and expressive—but may not suit citrus-heavy cocktails like G&Ts.
-
Frequently highlighted for its strong flavor and balanced spice, and often cited as best sipped neat or in savory cocktails.
🍸 Suggested Pairings & Cocktails
-
Gibson or Dirty Martini: The herbal and piney profile shines with briny Vermouth and olive garnish.
-
Minimalist Herb Cocktail: Combine with dry vermouth and a sprig of rosemary or thyme to highlight forest-forward aromatics.
-
Neat with a single large ice cube: Brings out garden-fresh clarity and lingering spice.
