Flight Island Birds is a laid-back rum from Flight Spirits. It is built from a blend of Caribbean rums and poured in a darker, mellow style. The idea is simple. It should taste like a lazy afternoon by the water.
The nose leads with warm vanilla and soft caramel. Ripe tropical fruit comes next, with a hint of pineapple and mango. A little baking spice sits underneath and keeps it from feeling sugary.
Your first sip is gently sweet. Vanilla and caramel carry the middle, and the fruit stays fresh rather than heavy. The texture is smooth and a bit creamy. A light dusting of spice and soft oak wraps things up. The finish is mellow and tidy, so you are ready for the next sip.
There are plenty of ways to pour it. Try a couple of ice cubes and a twist of orange. Add cola and lime for an easy highball, or ginger beer for a quick Dark and Stormy. It also mixes well with ready-made cocktails when you want a stronger glass. On the food side, it suits grilled meats, dark chocolate and spiced desserts.
Pick this bottle up if you like rum on the sweet, easy side. It makes a friendly choice for beach weekends, backyard grills and anyone just getting into dark rum.
