Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Profile: Medium+
The 601 Red Label Habano is Erik Espinosa's tribute to classic Nicaraguan cigar tradition: bold, balanced, and beautifully aromatic. Hand-crafted at Espinosa's La Zona factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, this blend was made for those who crave that vintage Cuban-style experience wrapped in contemporary precision.
At its core lies an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, gleaming with a Colorado-grade sheen and subtle oil. Beneath it rests a Nicaraguan Habano binder and a hearty mix of aged Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, delivering a medium-to-full-bodied profile that's powerful yet polished.
From the first spark, the Red Habano envelops the palate with earth, cedar, and roasted coffee, before transitioning to dark cocoa, honeyed vanilla, and a lively mix of black and red pepper. Its flavor progression is deliberate: structured, smooth, and deeply satisfying.
Awarded a 93-point rating by Cigar Aficionado, the 601 Red Habano was praised for its "nutty, woody core of cedar and walnuts framed by notes of honeyed tea and a mineral finish."
The 601 Red Habano earned a 93-point rating from Cigar Aficionado — one of the most widely cited rating systems in the industry — for its precise balance of Ecuadorian Habano wrapper character with the depth of aged Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos. La Zona, Espinosa's Estelí-based factory, is one of Nicaragua's most respected independent production facilities and produces consistently high-quality construction across the entire 601 lineup. The Habano wrapper's Colorado-grade color and oiliness signal a leaf that has been properly grown, fermented, and aged — a wrapper with this profile contributes natural sweetness and a complexity of flavor that inferior Habano leaf cannot match. An outstanding entry point into Erik Espinosa's catalog and one of the most reliable medium-plus cigars in continuous production today.
