The Pepe family has produced wine in Torano Nuovo, in Abruzzo's northern province of Teramo, since 1899, and the modern era began in 1964 when Emidio Pepe took over operations, dedicating himself to proving the aging potential of Trebbiano and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. The Vecchie Vigne comes from a 1.7ha plot at the bottom of a combe. The wine is 100% Trebbiano Abruzzese, unoaked, with 12.5% alcohol. Grapes are grown biodynamically, hand-harvested, hand-destemmed, fermented with spontaneous yeast, and aged 18-24 months in glass-lined cement.
