DeKuyper Orange Curaçao is a sweet orange liqueur for your home bar. The brand describes it as made from orange, lemon and curaçao fruit. Curaçao fruit is a bitter orange first grown on the Caribbean island of Curaçao. In this bottle, though, the sugar wins and the result tastes bright and sweet. It is clear, so it won't tint your drinks.
The flavor is simple and friendly. Sweet orange comes first, and lemon keeps it lively. A rounder citrus note from the curaçao fruit fills in behind them. Pour a little over ice and you'll see why it is a mixing staple. It is easy to sip, but it shines most in a shaker.
The DeKuyper name has Dutch roots, and the company has been making liqueurs and cordials for a very long time. The version sold in the US is produced in the United States. It sits in the triple sec family, so you can swap it in whenever a recipe asks for an orange liqueur.
The brand's own pick is the Cable Car. Shake one part Orange Curaçao with one and a half parts spiced rum and two parts sour mix. Strain it into a chilled martini glass. For something lighter, top a splash with soda and a squeeze of lime.
Keep a bottle nearby if you enjoy mixing fruity flavorful spirits at home. It adds sweet citrus to dozens of drinks.
