Darroze 1986 Armagnac is a vintage French Armagnac selected and matured by the Darroze family. Darroze's vintage releases preserve the individual identity of particular estates and harvest years, allowing long maturation to develop concentrated fruit, pastry-like sweetness, warming spice and mature oak complexity. Because multiple distinct Darroze 1986 estate bottlings exist, the precise estate and appellation should be assigned only after matching the exact bottle or Alberta SKU.
Food Pairing: Duck confit, foie gras, aged Comté, crème brûlée, gingerbread, walnut tart, toasted almonds, dried fruit, and dark chocolate.
Tasting Notes: Mature, rich and structured, combining pastry-like sweetness, dried fruit, warming spice and developed oak.
Nose: Crème brûlée and vanilla lead into caramel and gingerbread with mature aromatic depth.
Palate: Rounded yet characterful, with clove, pepper, dried walnuts and toasted almonds supported by mature oak.
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering nuts, spice, caramelized sweetness and seasoned oak.
The tasting direction above is grounded in Darroze's official 1986 profile, but I have avoided presenting Domaine de Cantau-specific identity as fact until the Alberta SKU is matched.
