This single-varietal red wine is produced in the Umbria region of central Italy, specifically within the Montecchio subregion of Orvieto. The estate, Famiglia Cotarella (formerly Falesco), was founded in 1979 by brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, two of Italy's most prominent oenologists. Their winemaking philosophy centers on elevating the status of Umbria and Lazio through a contemporary style that blends traditional heritage with innovative vineyard research. Since 2017, the third generation—sisters Dominga, Marta, and Enrica has managed the business, further emphasizing the connection between their native terroir and the family name.
Wine Description
The Cotarella Vitiano Cabernet Sauvignon displays an intense red colour with bright violet reflections. The sensory profile is young and expressive, featuring aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry, accented by delicate notes of espresso, toast, and mocha. On the palate, the wine is bold and structured yet soft, offering ripe flavours of blackberry and black cherry balanced by a harmonious acidity. It is characterized by round, velvety tannins and a smooth texture that leads into a long, savoury, and subtly mineral finish.
