A timeless herbal liqueur with a distinctively bittersweet personality, Carlsbad Becherovka is both evocative and refreshing. Its aromatic depth and balanced spice make it a singular aperitif or digestif—rich in heritage, character, and unmistakable Czech tradition.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Rooted in the historic spa town of Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary) in the Czech Republic, this iconic herbal liqueur has been crafted since 1807 using a secret recipe of more than 20 botanicals including herbs, spices, and natural aromatics. The production begins with a high-quality spirit base blended with pure Bohemian spring water and sugar, followed by careful maceration and infusion of the proprietary botanicals. Traditionally the recipe and blending remain closely guarded, entrusted to only a few artisans, ensuring a unique and consistent expression each generation. Finished in oak for a period that allows the herbal profile to harmonize and round, Becherovka embodies both historic craft and everyday versatility.
Critics Reviews
While formal critic scoring for this category of spirit is uncommon, professional spirits reviewers consistently praise Becherovka for its balance of bitter and sweet, and its aromatic complexity. Connoisseurs highlight its distinctive herbal signature, noting how it combines herbaceous depth with gentle warmth—qualities that have cemented its reputation globally as a benchmark herbal liqueur.
