What happens when Ardbeg takes apart its own casks? Anamorphic answers that question. The cask heads were removed, deeply scored, and put through an intense "high mocha" toasting before the whisky went in, and the result bends the distillery's familiar shape. Bottled at 48.2% ABV without chill filtration, this 750 ml single malt moves through four flavor dimensions—sweet, smoky, herbal, and spicy—that shift as the dram sits on the palate. Briny notes pull back, while chocolaty sweetness and mocha undertones step forward.
The nose is earthy and dusty with a faint biscuity edge, reading almost like an Ardbeg from a parallel universe. Sooty, tarry smoke is present but held in check, cut with silky vanilla. A splash of water unfolds a wide herbal and floral range: smoked vetiver root, aniseed, fennel, chrysanthemum, and jasmine among them.
