Profile: Medium
The Apostate Zarahelma is a bold and distinctive release from Apostate Cigars, the boutique brand founded by Brandon Oveson and Kendrick Woolstenhulme. Drawing its name from Apostia—Greek for defection or rebellion—Apostate Cigars redefines cigar culture with blends inspired by heritage, faith, and fearless reinvention.
Zarahelma, named after an ancient city in classic Mormon culture, marks a major milestone for the brand as their first box-pressed release. Introduced in 2023, this cigar also serves as Luxury Cigar Club's debut collaboration with Apostate—a pairing that emphasizes craftsmanship, exclusivity, and innovation.
What truly sets Zarahelma apart is its unique and complex blend. It features a dark and toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper grown in the USA, a flavorful African Cameroon binder, and a rich mix of fillers from the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The result is a medium-to-full-bodied cigar with layered character and a smooth, box-pressed draw.
Expect deep, engaging notes of dark chocolate, earth, dried fruit, leather, and baking spice, supported by the natural sweetness of the Broadleaf and the aromatic spice of Cameroon leaf.
The combination of a USA Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with an African Cameroon binder is one of the most distinctive component pairings in boutique cigar making. Cameroon leaf — grown in the volcanic soils of West Africa — has a unique aromatic spice and a medium body that contributes complexity in ways no Central American binder can replicate. The Mexican and Dominican fillers provide contrasting character: Mexican San Andres tobacco tends toward deep earthiness and natural sweetness, while Dominican piloto adds creaminess and body. The Zarahelma is the Luxury Cigar Club's debut collaboration with Apostate and represents a genuine meeting of creative visions from both sides — an exclusive cigar that rewards smokers who appreciate blends built around unexpected ingredient combinations.
