Privada Storytelling
In the Dominican Republic, Factory Rivas continues the legacy of Chico Rivas—a master blender who has preserved the true identity of indigenous Dominican tobacco. The 1491 is not just another cigar. It is pure Dominican Corojo, untouched by foreign influence or modern blending tricks. Its name pays homage to the year before Columbus arrived in the New World, a reminder of the sacred rituals of the Taíno people, who considered tobacco an offering to both gods and leaders.
Lighting up the 1491 is like stepping into history. Every puff is a journey back in time, when tobacco was raw, powerful, and revered. This cigar doesn’t just tell a story; it embodies a nation’s cultural and agricultural heritage, wrapped in a leaf that has remained pure for over five centuries. It is bold in its simplicity, complex in its authenticity, and deeply rooted in the Dominican soul.
Flavor Journey
-
First Third: Opens with freshly cut cedar, light pepper, and a honey-like sweetness unique to Dominican Corojo. Toasted bread and dried herbs appear, layered into a smooth medium body.
-
Second Third: Earthy tones of hay, almonds, and oak come forward. Coffee and subtle nutmeg emerge, while cinnamon lingers softly on the retrohale. The pepper eases into the background, allowing the richness of the soil to shine.
-
Final Third: Roasted chestnut becomes the centerpiece, joined by leather, cocoa, and a creamy sweetness that ties the entire experience together. Balanced and nostalgic, the cigar closes as a tribute to Dominican tobacco’s legacy.
Why It Belongs in Privada
The 1491 is an artifact in cigar form. In a market often dominated by strength and gimmicks, this cigar represents purity. It’s a chance to taste what tobacco was meant to be: raw, clean, and deeply tied to its origin. Privada exists to uncover rare experiences like this—cigars that connect the past to the present, offering members something they cannot find elsewhere. Smoking the 1491 is more than enjoyment; it’s communion with history.
